Grant van Rooyen

Grant van Rooyen, President and Chief Executive Officer

Prior to forming Cologix, Grant was CEO of IX Investments which was acquired by Cologix in late 2010. He was with Level 3 Communications for 10 years from 1999 until 2009 where he held a number of leadership positions, including President of the Content Markets Group, with responsibility for more than $1.5 billion of customer and product revenue.

In addition to his Cologix responsibilities, Grant is a Partner in vR Equity, a private investment firm. Grant has lived and worked around the world and holds a bachelors degree in economics and finance.

Brian van Rooyen

Brian van Rooyen has more than 40 years of experience as an executive operator, director and investor. Educated in South Africa, Brian began his career with Romatex Ltd, a Barlow Rand subsidiary, as division Managing Director. Brian was CEO of Australian Country Spinners Ltd, a vertically integrated global textile conglomerate. He led the company for 20 years until the successful sale to private equity sponsors in 2006. Brian is a sought after company director and an active private investor. His current directorships include: Australian Wool Innovation Ltd (Australia); Power Farming Ltd (New Zealand); ACS Ltd (Australia); Terrier Properties, Inc. (Canada); and Cologix, Inc. (U.S.). His past directorships include: Romatex Ltd (South Africa); Woolstock Australia Ltd (Australia); The Australian Wool Testing Authority Ltd (Australia); Kolotex Ltd (Australia); Norwellan Textiles Ltd (Australia); Visionglow Ltd (Australia); Bruck Ltd (Australia); and Spinrite, Inc. (Canada).
Patrick Hendy

Patrick Hendy, Cologix Director since December 2010

Patrick joined Columbia Capital in 2002 and focuses on Data Center and Enterprise IT Services investments. Patrick is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Cologix, New Signature, and Canara. Patrick previously served on the boards of Virtustream (acquired by EMC), mindSHIFT (acquired by Best Buy), and New Global Telecom (acquired by Comcast), and he was involved with a number of the firm’s previous Internet Infrastructure, Enterprise IT Services, and Mobile investments, including Presidio (acquired by American Securities), XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR), and NuVox Communications (acquired by Windstream). Before joining Columbia, Patrick worked at JPMorgan Chase & Co in their Telecom, Media and Technology Investment Banking group. Prior to that he worked at Wachovia Securities in their Debt Capital Markets group. Patrick received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University.
Neil Hobbs

Chairman of euNetworks and Chairman of New Signature

Neil Hobbs brings more than 30 years of experience in the technology and telecommunications industry, holding Chairman, Chief Executive and Senior Executive positions.

Currently Neil is the Chairman of euNetworks, one of the fastest growing integrated bandwidth infrastructure companies in Europe, and also Chairman of NewSignature, the 2014 and 2015 Microsoft North American Partner of the Year. As a Microsoft National Solution Provider, New Signature delivers Microsoft cloud solutions to mid-market and enterprise customers across the U.S. Most recently, Neil has held the positions of Chief Executive of TerraPact, Inc.; served as President and CEO of Atlantix Systems; and was CEO and then Chairman of Teliris before its successful sale to Dimension Data. Previously he held a number of senior positions at Level 3 Communications, Concert and British Telecom.

John Siegel

John joined Columbia Capital in 2000 and focuses on Internet Infrastructure and Enterprise IT Services investments. John is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Benestra, euNetworks, Summit IG, TerraPact, Cologix and New Signature. John previously served on the boards of ICG Communications (acquired by Level 3), New Global Telecom (acquired by Comcast), Presidio (acquired by American Securities), GTS CE (acquired by Deutsche Telekom), mindSHIFT (acquired by Best Buy), FDN Communications (acquired by NuVox), Virtustream (acquired by EMC), Cloud Sherpas (acquired by Accenture) and Zayo (publicly listed: NYSE); and represented Columbia Capital's interests in Mpower Communications (acquired by TelePacific). Before joining Columbia Capital, John worked in Morgan Stanley's Private Equity Group, where he specialized in investments in the telecommunications/data services arena. He also held positions with Fidelity Ventures, the private equity division of Fidelity Investments, and the Investment Banking Division of Alex. Brown & Sons, Incorporated. John received his B.A. from Princeton University and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Ashton Newhall

Ashton Newhall, Cologix Director since April 2015

Ashton co-founded Greenspring Associates in 2000 and manages the firm’s office in Owings Mills, Maryland. Ashton is a third-generation venture capitalist. Before co-founding Greenspring Associates, he was at T. Rowe Price Associates (“T. Rowe Price”) where he was one of the youngest marketers of the firm’s investment management services to both institutions and high net worth investors. Specifically, he marketed T. Rowe Price investment management services to the general partners of venture capital funds and entrepreneurs in both the United States and abroad. Ashton serves on the Board of Directors of the National Venture Capital Association, the Board of Trustees of Elon University, the Limited Partner Advisory Boards of Bessemer Venture Partners, Domain Associates, Pelion Venture Partners and QuestMark Partners. He is also a member of the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association Selection Committee.
